I already been on Sao Miguel Island, just one year before Covid in 2018. A was planning to go back somewhere around spring of 2025 as I really missed that place, but my friend, Mafalda called me up asking me for a favour.
Mafalda is a semi-professional cat lady, owning to beast called Chá and Gin. Mafalda and her boyfriend organized a trip to the Mediterranean with Filipe’s family as well. Which meant there were nobody to take care of the “kids”. As the weather was exceptionally good, I did not mind bringing my trip a little forward and “taking the job”.
This time I took a new friend with me. Viola was my new colleague at Bosch, where I was a UX designer at the time. We spent 10 days together on the island, I stayed a few days longer and stopped for a full day in Lisbon ono the way back home. We left Budapest around 5PM, waited 2-3 hour in Lisbon for our second flight, and arrived just before midnight, spent a little time with Mafalda and Filipe before sleep. They left the next morning.
We got the flat, the two cats and a car from the time period when Noah collected the animals, but perfect for us.
On our first day on the island, we had a perfect brunch at Jardim Natural Food & Coffee in my favourite park, Jardim Botânico António Borges. The park was full of chicken and geese, and they went close to anyone with for some potential snack.
We had a walk in the park, I showed Viola “the shopping mall” on the island as it was on our way to pick up the car. We did a little shopping and bought all the essentials for the following days: mostly pasta, cheese and wine.
I put on Sinatra, she cooked a nice dinner, we got tipsy and got familiar with our “clients”:
Client 1, Chá:
Client 2, Gin:
